North vs South

This is the Smith Civil War Memorial in Philadelphia's Fairmont park.
Fairmont is the park that just keeps on giving. (things to photograph)

The Memorial was erected between 1897 and 1912 under a bequest of Richard Smith. Among the military and naval men immortalized here are Generals Hancock, McClellan, Meade, Reynolds, and Admirals Porter and Dahlgren.

It looks like the heroes of the South are on the left and the heroes of the North are on the right.
I was surprised by the size of this monument, it's really tall and very impressive.

They ARE impressive. I'm amazed at how many Civil War monuments there are in the US. During the War Between the States, my part of Canada was just being settled.

That is a very impressive monument. Your images are great.

I'll admit the idea of Southern Civil War heroes leaves me scratching my head.

It looks impressive and tall indeed. Excellent skywatch foreground.

This might sound odd, but I have often wondered what this country would be like today if the South has won the Civil War? I can guess it would be different. And I am not so sure but think our government would be improved somewhat at least.

I liked your photograph the minute I saw it.

I am always amazed at how the American erect monuments on such a grand scale. Personally that is how I would do it. Remember in style.

Very nice photos. I wonder why very few such heroic structures/monuments are being made these days. Must be the styles of the times.

Very impressive monument! The Civil war is something that interests me a lot in your history.
The idea of the monuments makes me think of "the Lord of the rings",especially the pillars of the kings, at the Argonath..Ü

Keep them coming because they certainly don´t disappoint. The first one was so surrealistic like one that Magritte could have done.

The monument looks magnificent! And I find the distinction between the South and the North kind of funny but appropriate, I guess.

Beautiful set of pictures!
