Newtown Remembers

We're fortunate to live close enough to walk to Newtown's annual Memorial Day Parade. It was a blessing to gather together and remember the brave men and women who fought and died in defense of our country. This is just a few of the pictures that I took this morning. I was touched by the proud but thinning ranks of WWII veterans. I was also touched by the scene in the top picture of a mother and child but also a photo in her purse of a man in uniform (a grandfather perhaps?)

Water Under the Bridge (Weekend Reflections # 36)

Schofield Ford Covered Bridge, Newtown Pennsylvania.
I take lots of pictures of this covered bridge since it's so close to my house. I was happy to see such a clear reflection on this day.

The Sun, the Moon, the Cornfield and Me

Here are a couple of shots from my sunset walk yesterday. The sun was still too high in the sky to get a good direct shot so I pointed the camera in the opposite direction and captured my shadow, the rising moon and an old barn. Then I was able to capture the sun's glorious rays as they poured over the cornfield.

Van Sandt Covered Bridge

I saw a covered bridge for the first time just last year. It was the Schofield Ford Bridge near my house. Now it's sort of a hobby to find and photograph them. This is another Bucks County covered bridge in Solebury Township. Vansandt Covered Bridge was built in 1875 and it's supposedly haunted , some people say that a ghostly baby can be heard crying from time to time. I don't believe in ghosts and the bridge seemed very peaceful to me. Infact the whole area for miles around is beautiful.
This is my second Sunday Bridges entry at San Francisco Bay Daily Photo.

Family Fun on the Other Side (Weekend Reflections # 35)

Last weekend I was walking along a creek and I noticed a family standing in front of the water on the other side. This is their reflection. From left to right ( 1. a little boy looking at something in his hands, 2.) a women in shorts bent over holding a red leash, 3) a man in white walking toward the scene with a drink in his hand, 4) the black dog on the red leash, 5) a little girl poking a stick in the water, she's about to be licked by the dog.) You can also see the reflection of the trees and the dirt.
I rotated this picture because I liked it this way better.

Les Papillons Jaune

Last week I was fortunate enough to capture some bees in flight. This weekend I was walking in a large park in outskirts of Philadelphia when I saw these beautiful butterflies next to a creek. The bottom one's shadow reminds me of Batman and the top one looks like she has a parasol. Besides the yellow and black they also have some red and blue near their tail end.
Anyone know what type of butterfly they are?

Looking Down to see What's Up (Weekend Reflections # 34)

This is the reflection of the blue sky and some sunlit branches in the shallow part of a pond. I focused on the reflection and left the water grass blurry. To be honest I was hoping to capture the reflection of a bird flying over but no luck this time.
One year ago today May 14th 2009 did my first post on this blog. I'd just arrived in Pennsylvania after a long journey from Texas. However I was already a 2 month blogging veteran since I started Something Sighted in March of 2009. Now a big Thank You to all of you! You've made this blog and Weekend Reflections way more successful than I ever imagined. I would also like to say that Pennsylvania is even better than I thought it would be. It's funny how things happen. A year and a half ago I didn't know anything about Pennsylvania, blogging or photography. :) Have a great Weekend!

Portraits of a Bumble Bee

These probably would have been easier to capture if I had a macro lens but all I had was my 50mm. Bees don't like to pose in mid air.
After seeing Sistertex's Face of the Week I've decided that the little face in the bottom photo will be my enty. If you have a face photo or want to see other's check out Sistertex's Face of the Week meme.

A Reflection of a Nice Day (Weekend Reflections #33)

I took this picture on the same day and place as most of the other recent pictures. I saw a wooden shack that looked like it would be good for a couple of pictures. When I got closer I noticed that the window had a really nice reflection.

Mr. Fluffbottom's Neighborhood

I saw these sheep last week while I was walking around in the same area where I took the last Weekend Reflections picture and the picture of the white and red mill with the squares and rectangles. My first thought was of my blogger friend Sunny at (Barnyards and Barnacles). Then I noticed that all but one of them were ignoring me. So I asked the one that was looking my way to smile for the camera. It looks like Mr Fluffbottom has a sense of humor because he stuck out his tongue instead. I also took a picture of the sheep's house. On top of the tree covered hill to the right of the barn is a structure called Bowman's Tower.
Sunny posts so many wonderful photos of barns and barnyard animals plus all sorts of other interesting things . She's also an excellent poet. In a recent post she said that the black and white photo project at my Something Sighted blog has inspired her to start posting more black and white photos. I look forward to seeing them.
