I passed Hahnemann hospital when I was on my way to Chinatown the other day. The hospital was established in 1885 and is a mix of old and new buildings. The bottom photo shows part of the old building and the top one shows part of a mural on one of the newer buildings.

I so enjoy seeing the beautiful architecture in your photos. Its refreshing to stop and truly "see" something!
ReplyDeleteTwo excellent photographs of an old, revered institution in Philadelphia!
ReplyDeleteWell done, James!
The mural is fantastic, 'H' handsign a great job there. You find such interesting things.
ReplyDeleteAnd the hospital's lettering and the way the light and shadow falls reminds me a little of Stephen King's 'Kingdom Hospital', just a bit on the mysterious side. Did you use photoshop on that photo at all James?
Nice post!
You definitely get a Gothic feeling here - the Hand suited it very well.
ReplyDeleteGood one...love the architecture here and the part of the mural must be showing some type of sign language. :D
ReplyDeleteMarvelous architecture, terrific shot, James, as always! Really interesting building -- could be out of a Gothic movie! The hand mural is different to say the least!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!

I like the first one depicting the sign language letter H and that looks like a beautiful reflection of the blue sky in the windows in the second shot. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteAs a kid i taught myself sign language (just the spelling) and knew right away what the first picture was about. Wonderful photos my friend :) aloha
ReplyDeletej'aime beaucoup la peinture murale

ReplyDeleteI love the lettering of Hahnemann and Hospital. They don't do it like that anymore...
ReplyDeleteboth the pics are awesome ....i specially like the above one...
ReplyDeleteI would have guessed that it was a church. You could have all the money in the world but you'd be hard-pressed to replicate that building's detail.
ReplyDeleteHaunting mural...the architecture is wonderful, wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI love the sign language H so much. What a fantastic picture of a beautiful Mural!
ReplyDeleteGreat detail of the building, useful and effective mural.
ReplyDeleteI feel so inspired by your post.
ReplyDeleteYou have a wonderful eye.
I shall look at the buildings in my city differently.
Thank you.
Sherry
Great modern mural combined with fine Gothic architecture!
ReplyDeleteI gave you an award. (I thought I had an email for you, but whatever I had bounced...)
