Once upon a time in The Village "Weekend Street/Reflections # 234)

New York City

There she was, sagging against the smudged glass of an overpriced Greenwich Village wine bar, a fur hat that probably cost more than my monthly rent, her hand propping up a face that’d seen too many phonies—and, judging by the glazed look in her eyes, too many glasses of wine.
The guy—some loping stranger with flipped-up collar and 1950s Elvis sideburns—ambled past, lost in his own search for something real amid the Village’s fake bohemian clutter. The street buzzed with hipsters, clowns, and posers, and I couldn’t help but choke on a wry laugh—here we were, chasing authenticity like a lost glove, while she was already three sheets to the wind, proving the joke was on us all.

Un éclaboussure d'humour ? (Weekend Street/Reflections # 233)

Paris, France

On a sunny March afternoon at a café, François' wife and daughter were lost in their coffee chat—until François plopped a newspaper hat on his head and belted out, "Vive la France, la Bastille est prise!" Raising his glass, he sloshed water everywhere, dousing his wife’s arm and soaking the table. His daughter turned beet-red, while his wife snapped, "Slow down, Mr. Hanriot—it’s only March!"

Saxophone Whispers of Independence (Weekend Street/Reflections # 232)

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

On the bustling streets of Philadelphia, a blind man sat playing the Star-Spangled Banner, his saxophone gleaming under the July sun. His fingers danced with memory, not sight, each note rising over the sounds of passing cars. The world passed by, indifferent, but I lingered with nostalgia tugging at my heart, lost in the melody’s promise of freedom.
