I always notice this
carillon when I pass by, so yesterday I decided to stop and get a few pictures. The plaque said that it was donated to the church in 1929. I took these just before a heavy rain storm.

We used to picnic by a carillon in Richmond, VA when I was a kid. I always enjoyed the sounds.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics capturing the incoming storm.
I bet it sounds as pretty as it looks! That does look like a bad storm coming up.
ReplyDeleteMy blog is here.
ReplyDeleteNice captures James. I would love to hear the sounds! You always have interesting pictures and places you visit. And thanks for your nice compliments. As much as you like reading my posts, I love writing them, and I hope not to ran out of ideas.
Nicely done, James...great sky, too. I like carillons except when they're ringing! ;-)
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos, the carillon is a great focal point.
ReplyDeleteVery inspiring. I hope the year it was donated doesn't portend anything re today.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, a sky like Versailles! ;-) What does it sound like? Sweet chimes?
ReplyDeleteWhat a sky, I'd like a few of your clouds here.
ReplyDeleteThe carillon is fantastic, we are not used at them here. Do they 'play' it often?
I like the first photo!
ReplyDeleteI like the sky just before it rains. It has so much character, just like what you shown here.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of the week.
In addition to seeing such beautiful photography, I'm learning things here. I never knew what a carillon was and now I do. What awesome pictures. I'm so glad I found you. Your blog is just fantastic :)
ReplyDeleteThe first one is my favourite here - could be the start of a film :)
ReplyDeleteMarvelous shots, James! Beautiful composition in both of them.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

Beautiful pictures. How lovely it would be to listen to the bells with a sky like that in the background.
ReplyDeleteNice photo. I would like to hear the bells.

Troy
I love this post!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to hear the bells too :)

You captured it all, James. There is nothing more moving than the music of the carillon bells. They are so soothing and the sound carries for quite a distance, too. I can almost here them now Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLovely captures here! I love to listen to carillon bells but we have none close by.
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
When you mentioned 1929, it reminds me of the great depression. Nice photos James, I like the first one :o)

ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see the bells out in the open, enjoying the sky.
ReplyDeleteI like the first image with the cross reaching into the hole in the clouds! Also, your low flying duck is a great catch!
ReplyDeleteLike the rest, I would love to hear them ring. Nice captures.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures, and a strange "building" that i've never heard about befoe! ;)

Such a beautifully disturbed sky. Wonderful and inspirational shots.
ReplyDeleteThat was a mighty instrument. I hope it survived the storm.
ReplyDeleteYou did more than justice to that first photo... well done!
ReplyDeleteYou taught me something. So far, I have seen only one bell tower.
ReplyDeleteYour carrilon, do people ring the bells?
Thanks for visiting my site. I like to photograph churches too.
Nice silhouette! I really like the first image.
ReplyDeleteNice silhoutte! Love the way the sky is in the picture!
