Looking up in Philadelphia

Once again it's time for Skywatch Friday. I love taking pictures of interesting things with a beautiful sky in the background. This week I present part of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. Some of the middle fence posts seem to be pointing to the train headed for Camden New Jersey.
The bottom picture is the color version of William Penn and his Pigeons. I can't imagine what William or Benjamin would think of the colossal bridge or the speeding train in the picture above him.

Happy Skywatching!

  1. Bridges are fascinating! All the engineering and stories on their back...

  2. You do these looking-up shots very well, James. Great compositions in both cases. I think Franklin would push his glasses down his nose, wrinkle his brow, grin slightly, and say, "I knew it would come to this!"

Have a great day! And thanks for your kind words!

  5. That bridge reminds me of the Bay Bridge here. Just as beautiful. And that pigeon on statue image is really nice.

  6. And what would Penn think of having pigeons on his head? :) I really like the industrial feel about the first picture.

  9. I think he would be more concerned with the bird on his head.

  10. That impressive bridge ought to have room for a couple of birds too, but birds love statues!

I love the bridge shot, and the second shot is very interesting. The pigeon looks like part of Ben's hat!

  19. Hmmm, two great minds with one single thought (if uyou get my drift, James) Bridges and bird just seem to be the topic of the day.
Great views of both, well done, as always...
    Have a nice weekend

  20. Great shots James. The bridge reminds me of the Bay Bridge from Oakland to San Francisco also. It looks like Mr. Penn gets plenty of attention too.

  24. I like how the pickets in the fence align with the cable suspension on the bridge. Both are great shots, James.

  26. "I can't imagine what William or Benjamin would think of the colossal bridge or the speeding train in the picture above him."
I love the back perspective of William Penn. It let's us all imagine his facial expression as he thinks on your above quote! ;o)
    All the best, Maria

  31. Impressive bridge and picture.. My eyes were attracted by the area UNDER the bridge, this kind of strange places that can be found in tall cities, a kind of no-man's land, hidden and forgotten, very near and at the same time very far, a little scarry, that we see every day but where we would never go....

  32. Beautifully done.

I trust from wherever Penn is observing his former world, he is pleased the pigeons keep him company.

  33. Love all the lines in that first shot.

  34. Revered statues make great roosting places for pigeons, they have no respect for history. Nice shot.
