This is Bud, he's a truck driver who likes to talk about politics.
This is a candid shot of Bud before I decided to ask him if it was okay to take his picture.
The diner is small and probably typical for it's era. It's a popular spot for truckers. The guy sitting on Bud's right noticed my not so hidden camera. Checkout the reflections on those stools. :)
I hope you enjoyed the peak. Please relax and have some pie and coffee.

Bud is my Face of the Week. If you would like to see other Face of the Week posts please click here.
Wow. His blue eyes sure stand out. I envy you your ability to do portraits. I can't photograph people. Not sure why, they just don't work for me.
ReplyDeletePS - love the reflections in the stools - and the pie case too!
I've always loved places like this. Bud is a great sport.
ReplyDeleteIt looks exactly like what I thought it would look like inside. And the B&W is extraordinary. I love it. :) Bud was a good sport. What a great face of the week :)
ReplyDeletegreat shots James. It was probably a good idea to get that guy's permission!
ReplyDeleteGreat portrait. Bud's face is wonderful, beautiful light. The black and white image is a classic diner shot! What a terrific photo essay James.
ReplyDeletece reportage est magnifique, j'adore le portrait de ce biker et la photo finale dans le Diner
ReplyDeleteBud has lovely blue eyes, especially in that first shot. We never had real diners here, so I have nothing to compare this with except what I've seen in TV shows and movies. But in the BW photo, it looks like a re-purposed wide bus. ;)
ReplyDeleteI hope you and your family had a blessed and beautiful Easter Sunday, James!
Wow, these are great face pictures James.Your truckdriver looks good and great shots.
ReplyDeleteI would say almost word by word what Thom said!
ReplyDeleteThat's a "Very American" cliché!!
Bud included! You would never see such places and people here. Wonderful report about a way of life, and great "face of the day"!
Nice to meet you, Bud. You really deserve the Face of the Week title!
ReplyDeleteNow may I have some pie?
What a fantastic portrait! I just bet he does love to talk politics, and I bet not many argue with him :) Love this diner, it looks exactly as I expected. And the pie looks delicious! Kathy
ReplyDeleteWow - James I *love* it, so much personality! Bud seems like a nice enough guy. Not only does he have a face with a lot of character, the shadow gives him a bit of a concerned look. At least my take. His tats are really interesting as well.
ReplyDeleteLove the way the diner is all done up for Easter, I see an Easter Bunny standing on the coffee maker. :)
The black and white photo is great too, good choice as I think the color would be too distracting. Wonderful stuff - I love places like this! Thanks so much for sharing and participating in 'Face of the Week'!!!
I enjoyed catching up in my reader this morning ... nifty views inside and out of this diner. There's just something about these isn't there. Hope you and yours had a joyous Easter!
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
I was wondering if you'd take us inside. I wish I could have a pie.
ReplyDeleteI like his eyes.
Oh Good Golly, what Gems!!!! And once again James, the depth of field on all is perfection. However did you get up the nerve to confront Bud? Love his quizzical expression and bright blue eyes, the tats, awesome post.
ReplyDeleteUsually in our road trips, we would patronize local diners, and check out their favorites.
ReplyDeleteLove the mono effect of the shot, makes the reflection more emphatic!
Very interesting tattoo, too "eat fire".
Hurray! Thanks for the diner shots! The interior is great even with computers on the counter. The stools, booths, people ---- excellent!
ReplyDeleteBud is likely not as intimidating person as he might appear at first glance, although I would not press an argument with him. The food in these places is generally pretty good, especially the pie. I hope you tried a piece.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post, you have really captured the mood of the diner and you definitely have a talent for 'people pictures'. Super job!
ReplyDeleteSunny :)
great post, James! Love the candid shots (even if that one guy saw it!). Well done! And the black and white one is really good looking!
ReplyDeleteI loved the peak into the dinner. You got some great shots both as a portrait of a person and a portrait of a diner.
ReplyDeleteThese are powerful shots James. I like the mono one with all the reflections and also the one you took before asking his permission.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you asked his permission, though perhaps not as glad as you! LOL! Great photographs - I hope you and Bud became good buds, temporarily at least :-)
ReplyDeleteBlack and white shot is cool. It's a real slice of life pic.
ReplyDeleteI used to be a terror for taking candid shots when I got my first proper camera.
Great portrait ... great shots! I once had a Sunday breakfast at truckstop in NJ ... that was awesome too!
ReplyDeleteWish you a great week!
Like everyone else, I'm impressed by this series of photos. This diner has a vintage look although most of the fittings look pretty new. I wonder what was on the jukebox? I wish I had the nerve to ask to take people's pictures. What did you say to Bud?
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos. I love the long shot, and the lady on the right with her soup spoon. A classic for sure.
ReplyDeleteNice to see what it's like inside - thanks :). Actually it looks a bit like a bus on the right (2nd last pic).
ReplyDeleteWhat a great face Bud has, and what a good photo of him, esp the one of him looking at the camera.
Love those old diners. Don't know if I'd like to discuss politics with that guy. Fantastic photos.
ReplyDeleteThats a BIG man! I like the photo in b/w, it`s great:-)
ReplyDeleteI think I wouldn't dare taking a shot of Bud before asking him! :-) Great portraits and fantastic b&w perspective of the diner.
ReplyDeleteOutstanding, James! The b&w especially fits the retro diner.
ReplyDeleteAll of them are really good! I love the candid capture.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos James.. "Bud" does not look amused.. :) Like several comments before, I too really like the black and white... So much to take in...
ReplyDeleteNice photo essay on Bud! I am glad he was agreeable. Ever have someone who wasn't?
ReplyDeleteLove the nostalgic feel - especially the b/w shot. I wonder if Bud eats fire? You captured a softness in his portrait :)
ReplyDeleteI did enjoy the peek inside. I have been in a diner similar to this one many years ago. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLooking at Bud, I would have asked very kindly BEFORE taking a photo! :-)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great place to hang out! Love the sign out front. And Bud sure has some cool tattoos on his arms :)
ReplyDeleteHe is a really strong man.
ReplyDeletePower to surge from eyes reaches me.
It seems to be totally a movie star.
Your photography is a human story...
I simply love Peter's comment!
ReplyDeleteExcellent rendering of the whole place!
Wow, that first photo of Bud, is awesome. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThe face of the week looks interesting..I didn't participate in this one..but I like your choice of Bud and the way it came out with the reflections in Mono- Were you able to discuss anything? Ha..
ReplyDeleteNice series. I especially like those reflections in the barstools. Nice catch!
ReplyDeleteThese are just classic! I think it was a very good idea that you asked Bud for permission to take that photo! And, what a great job you did...The portrait is so good! I might have been a bit nervous walking into that diner to eat...and you captured that mood so well! So classic, James!
ReplyDeleteOne more thought...I hope your camera was silent on that candid shot! Whoa!
ReplyDeleteLove your candid of Bud. Would love to hear his political views. I bet he has strong opinions!
ReplyDeleteBud is a great subject for face of the week!
ReplyDeletei like the 3 shot
ReplyDeletelike 1950
I love your "face of the week"! awesome portrait James.
ReplyDeleteJames,
ReplyDeleteGood Photo Of Jenny's Diner. I have not eaten there in quite a few years but the food is good. You were only about 15 minutes from where I live.
Hope you liked the area!
Keep up the great work with the photos!
