I saw a covered bridge for the first time just last year. It was the Schofield Ford Bridge near my house. Now it's sort of a hobby to find and photograph them. This is another Bucks County covered bridge in Solebury Township. Vansandt Covered Bridge was built in 1875 and it's supposedly haunted , some people say that a ghostly baby can be heard crying from time to time. I don't believe in ghosts and the bridge seemed very peaceful to me. Infact the whole area for miles around is beautiful.This is my second Sunday Bridges entry at San Francisco Bay Daily Photo.

ReplyDeleteLooks like they redid the foundation and fixed the stonework :-) My son (now in 11th grade) did his 6th grade project on the Covered Bridges of Bucks County, so I've visited most, if not all of them.

I love covered bridges, and this one is a beauty. I forgot how gorgeous the countryside there really is. Beautiful shots, that worn red against the blue sky is breathtaking. Sorry I haven't been around much for Weekend Reflections, but it's crazy busy here with Cait's graduation and trying to start a business. I feel like I've lost my "photo mojo"! Kathy

I always think of my grandfather when I think of covered bridges. He and I would often roam the countryside in search of them (I am sure he really knew where they were) and I loved the sound the boards made when we rode over the bridge. Thanks for the memory.

ReplyDeleteI grew up in Borneo. They (the natives) believe that when a bridge is built, human sacrifice must be made. Once I was in the last years of high school, I had young siblings. there was a rumour that a bridge was built and they were looking for young kids to be sacrificed. off course mum took no chances, my younger siblings who normally played outside have to rush home at 5pm.
You see, i grew up in Borneo, the land of head hunters. That is why when I read about your bridge and the baby crying, I didn't think it is funny.
