This is the reflection of the sculpture and clock on the facade of Grand Central Terminal in New York City. Mercury is easy to see with his arms stretched out under the Hyatt's " T's" but the reflection also shows a distorted Minerva lying on her side and Hercule's head as well as some buildings. The sculpture was created in 1914 by Jules Alexis Coutan of Paris.

I like the distortion at the edges, looks really cool. The statues are interesting!!
ReplyDeleteNicely spotted! Maybe Minerva has been inside and visited the bar before he got distorted? :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the different angles of the reflection. Sometimes, I would purposely make distortions on my photos. Well done!
ReplyDeleteYou brought the old and the new together into one exciting photo!
ReplyDeleteAwesome Reflection! Happy Weeken!
ReplyDeleteJames, what a wonderful urban reflection...so appealing in every way to a guy who is crazy about urban reflections. I veered away from my urban pursuits this week with something unusual...please stop by...Peace

Wonderful picture and a special treat to see for this Georgia girl! Have a great weekend James.
ReplyDeleteThat is a magnificent reflection James. The day I am able to take photos as good as yours, I'll know I know how to take good pictures.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend.
I always identified with Mercury as a young man because I was so moody. I haven't thought of him in years. Yet one beautiful photograph brings it all back. I can see what a miracle of change life is.
ReplyDeleteGawd, James! Your photography is masterful!
On Being a Submissive Wife
Really cool combination of the statues reflected in the modern architecture.
ReplyDeleteSo many dimensions my eyes have to keep changing focus.

This is magnificient!
ReplyDeleteFascinating, wavey images in the windows! The statue almost seems to be floating on water! Beautiful shot!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the most amazing pictures I've ever seen! I love the reflection of the statue, or whatever that building adornment is called!
ReplyDeleteLove it!
Terrific reflection. I like the combination of the old and the new.
ReplyDeleteThe reflections seem real because of the distortion.
ReplyDeleteThat is soooo beautiful - extraordinary image. I love that clock/sculpture. I have a more ordinary photo of it from my trip there 2 years ago October.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love your photo today.
ReplyDeleteGrand Central Station is so beautiful. You've photographed her in a very unique way.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting this meme James.

Well, I'm late to this party, but I did show up. :-) James, your reflection photo has so much of interest... the lines, the contrasts, I really like it.
ReplyDeleteLove the composition here with the sculptural distortion inside and the contrasting architectural outlines to the right, around the corner. A fun take
ReplyDeleteon Grand Central!
we stayed in the Grand central Hyatt in DC when we came to America with the kids in 1993, and in NY, we stayed at holiday inn, ( I think)
ReplyDeleteYour reflection is very impressive. I tried to do a Stamford reflection today when I went to pick my Bro In Law up, but I get get a good photo.
I like the contrast between old and modern
ReplyDeleteReally nice reflection! I like how you've caught Mercury.
ReplyDeleteLe choc de l'ancien et du nouveau, à moins que ce ne soit la complémentarité ? Très bien vu !
ReplyDeleteJ'aime beaucoup, un trés bel effet alliant modernité et passé. Beautiful. Bon week-end
ReplyDeleteAwesome shot!!
ReplyDeleteJunie
I work a block away and see this every day—and I'm still super-impressed. Bravo, James!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful reflection of the gorgeous sculpture! It's a wonderful angle, too :D
ReplyDeleteThe past is contained in the present moment. This one really gets me thinking philosophically about time, human accomplishment, and our place in this universe.
ReplyDeleteI love the reflection of old architecture on new. Stunning photo, as always.

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful capture. I hope you're having a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible sculpture and reflection! Great photo!
ReplyDeleteNot because I grew up in NYC, this is one of my top fave reflections you've shown us. I love how the curvy lines of the sculpture get even curvier. Great vision here.
ReplyDeleteThe old and the new, the reflection and the actual.... lots going on here. Interesting shot...

Didn't I just leave a comment here? Am I losing my mind? I told you I loved the clarity of the pic despite the window distortions. This is an amazing capture.
ReplyDeleteJust LOVE this Superior Snap! A) Because I've been here, and know pretty much where you were standing to capture it, and B) Because it's just a gem!
