Williams, Arizona (Route 66)
There is a lot of history and interesting things to see on Route 66. I'm sure it has changed quite a bit from its glory days, but I have a good imagination, so I was able to go back in time and really enjoy the ride.
I took this photo in Williams, Arizona. I was surprised by the amount of French tourists. I finally spoke to one of them. He was from Paris and he told me that Route 66 is "mythique" to the French. Thankfully, most of the conversation was in English because my French is very limited. :0)

ReplyDeleteYou're a macadam cowboy! :o)
ReplyDelete(your french teacher let me know that your french is not so limited...Ü)
Ask Eddy Mitchell and Johnny Halliday what they think about Road 66...
I'v heard about Route 66 since I was a kid (a long time ago), it's quite famous around here too.
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend James! ;-)
I'm an Aussie and I've heard of Route 66 but Aussie's holiday in the US all the time and our countries have a good relationship(it's possibly got some fame via the movies too). I'm surprised about the French knowing though!
ReplyDeleteGreat reflection and thanks for hosting.
Route 66 was worldwide famous...
ReplyDeleteAnd after the Pixar movie Cars, I think that doesn't exist a person who had never heard about it.
:-P
Your story reminds me of an experience I had hiking down into the Grand Canyon. There were so many Germans and French on the trail that someone came up to me and asked if I spoke English! Americans are a minority on the trail in many of our National Parks.
ReplyDeleteLove the Route 66 neon and reflection - Route 66 really is legend! I hear it went out of fashion for a time, but is slowly becoming popular again.
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how cool I think this one is James!~ Great shot!
ReplyDeleteThe sign is oh so fitting for Rt 66!
ReplyDeleteWonderful iconic picture of Route 66!
ReplyDeleteAnd interesting about it being 'mythique' to the French people; hope they weren't disappointed to find it changed.
Not sure why my picture didn't show up in the the thumbnail -- there is one with a reflection, honest!
A funny sign! Looks even better in double. :)
ReplyDeletePerhaps "mythique" is all the French a guy needs to know! : )
ReplyDeleteLove this neon light reflection...kind of like graffiti in the dark. Great shot my friend.
great shot! :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome reflection! My boss did that drive and really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteGreat reflection!
ReplyDeleteThis is SO cool, James! Hey, who remembers the TV show with Martin Milner and George Maharis and that Corvette?
ReplyDeleteLove this double edged night view of the iconic journey! Fascinating sense of colourful "busyness"!
ReplyDeleteHi James
ReplyDeleteit's been awhile too long but i wanted to join in this week because it tickled my fancy and so too does your reflection. now have a fun weekend.
Just joined you and what a great reflection to join! Reminds me of lunch at Santa Monica Pier last year - sitting under the end of Route 66 sign. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteRoute 66 in Arizona is a great vacation. Too bad so much is now gone on that great American highway.
ReplyDeleteThe Mother Road is mythique to most of us. It's always a thrill to get to ride the old road. I think it reminds us of unfettered youth, when anything seemed possible and the open road was a siren call.
ReplyDeleteThis is a mythical reflection ! Route 66 !!!
ReplyDeleteGreat sign! I would love to drive Route 66 the whole way, it's on my bucket list.
ReplyDeleteRoute 66 went right through the 2 towns where I grew up, San Bernardino and Rialto. To me, it was just a busy downtown street...I didn't know how famous that song would make it. Great reflection of the sign at night!
ReplyDeleteJames, I absolutely LOVE this.
ReplyDeletemy husband had a route 66 Tee, everyone asked if he got it there.
ReplyDeleteGreat sign.
ReplyDeletegreat reflections and night photography
ReplyDeleteThis is terrific.
ReplyDeleteHaut en couleur, à l'image de l'idée que l'on se fait du voyage !
ReplyDeleteGreat neon symmetry...
ReplyDeleteGreat neon symmetry...
ReplyDeleteWhen you put together legend + imagination good things come up! :)
ReplyDeleteGod bless you!
Cezar
That is on my bucket list! Great photo!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot, James.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting.
You got a real mirror image.
ReplyDeleteYes, Rt. 66 seems to be famous all over the world.
I think Kerouac, Ginsberg and the Beatnics were well-known in Paris from the 60s onwards... Route 66 is probably ore iconic than mythical, but whatever... Great the French are still visiting the USA; Americans have not always been kind to them (remembeer when they wanted to rename French Fries?) LOL! Fun reflection shot, James!
ReplyDelete[Re your cockroach story, it amuses me how many Filipinos are scared of them, considering they are very much part of the everyday landscape here! And yup, they are big! I especially am not fond of the ones that fly!]
Route 66 was just a part of the roadmap of our country, or that was what I thought when I was a kid. Who knew is was iconic?!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot, mon ami!
Bises,
Genie
There is Route 66 clothing brand carried by Targets (I believe). Your reflection is great.
ReplyDeleteRoute 66 is awesome. The speed limit of 30 miles is a bit ridiculous however... It's funny you should mention the French tourists though because I spoke to a photographer from Paris Match who was shooting fashion out there in the desert. She said driving along the route was an adventure, and she said that in the cutest French accent one can imagine. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou know I love it! Great sign. Love the lit up neon in the night.
ReplyDeleteI would love to take another crack at Route 66 cross country. The only time I did that drive was before I was into photography and before I had my first camera. I once met an Italian couple that did the whole journey together, both on one Vespa!
Happy Trails...
Love the Neon in the black night sky.
ReplyDeleteI really like the Route 66 TV show, and I'm a big fan of neon signs like the one in this post! Richard
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo James., I would love to travel on route 66.
ReplyDeleteVery nice photo! I wish I was in to photography when I was young. I spent a lot of time on route 66 with my grandparents. It has changed so much since then!
