I don't know what ship this anchor is from or why it's displayed here but It starts with A and that's this weeks ABC Wednesday letter.
The steamboat in the background is called the Liberty Belle and it sits on the Delaware river.
I need to make my way back to Burlington New Jersey to find out more about the anchor and the ship, also St. Mary's church which I posted about last month.

I'd like to know more because I like both the steamboat and the huge anchor. The only steamboat like this I ever saw was in Germany...
ReplyDeleteLove this shot. This reminds me when I was growing up in Carson City. Going up to Lake Tahoe they had a paddle wheeler called the MS Dixie. You could take dinner cruises and it would go from the South Shore around Emerald Island and back. Such a great time. Excellent photos :)
ReplyDeleteTwo beautiful and very well-composed photos, James. Plus the subject in each case is interesting; the colors are great; and they are very sharp!
ReplyDeleteFun to look at!
Absolutely beautiful shots James!
ReplyDeleteBoth pictures are nice! I like that steamboat and the red paddlewheel. Reminds me of New Orleans.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful steamboat. I'd love to take a ride on it. The anchor is interesting too, and a great A choice.
ReplyDeleteThat is a BIG Anker only Pippi Longstocking can take it!!!

I did Z by misstake this week and that post is up.
I like very much those old river steamboats and Liberty Belle is a perfect piece! Have a nice Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteI like this red turbine!
ReplyDeleteI think I must make a trip there as well... very cool!
ReplyDeleteI do wonder about the amount of strength needed to pull up one of those anchors.
ReplyDeleteJames, I have visited many "daily photo" style blogs. I mean to say this but keep forgetting. Somehow your pictures are very "clean cut". I like them. Do you stand there and think how you are going to compose the pictures or you just snap them without thinking much?
ReplyDeleteBetween, good job. I like the 1st picture. Good dimension.
Seeing the beautiful steamboat reminds me of 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' by Mark Twain. I enjoyed that story and always wanted to ride on a steamboat up the Mississippi River.
ReplyDeleteJames your photos are supercalifragilistic :D
Af, second post of anchor. Beautiful river boat! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLiberty Belle is gorgeous! The second photo with the anchor superimposed over the ship is very artistic.
ReplyDeleteI blog here.
ReplyDeleteHi James, did you know that there's almost like this in the Long Beach Harbor? The steamboat is used for Mystery and dinner cruises.
Bonjour James!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for this theme! All pictures are perfect and the second one has the boat like a nice detail!Very creative!
God bless you
Léia :)
Really beautiful steamboat. A bit far north for it? Anchor is a perfect A.
ReplyDeleteThat's a huge anchor! And a great idea for A.
ReplyDeleteLike Rune you've anchored in for this round of ABC - great photo
ReplyDeletenice pictures ... bravo for the A ....
ReplyDeleteAWESOME PLACE AND SOME REALLY NICE PICTURES jAMES! tHANKS FOR SHARING!
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of the steamboat! They are so beautiful and stately .. but looking at it I began to wonder if they were seen this way when they first began to ply your wide rivers? Or did people consider them ugly and intrusive?
ReplyDeleteInteresting that the anchor should be painted white. The ones on display over here are usually painted black. Are they ever white when in use?
Wow, just came across your blog. I love mysteries (WHY is that anchor there?)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the help now I have AURA, MB
ReplyDeleteThat was no small anchor! It ought to hold several of those ships.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy these old steamboats; this one reminds me of ones I've been on, on the Mississippi. Thanks for sharing today!
ReplyDeleteWow! I miss this! Very sorry James.
