Where the Vultures Roam

I love this old barn and the little building next to it with the tree growing ot of it. Several vultures flew out of the barn just before I took this picture. Click here if you would like a closer look and a different angle in black and white.

It's 100 F/38 C and humid in Newtown today I hope it's cooler where you are.

  1. We have no vultures around here, so maybe I'm more afraid that I ought to be, but I hope they didn't trouble you.

Otherwise, that was a rural scene that I enjoyed verymuch.

  5. This looks like home to me. I can see myself, twenty-five years ago, walking along that old two-wheel track with a girl in denim shorts and leather sandals. Those old sheds with trees growing in them are growing towards perfection and authenticiy.

  6. James what a beautiful image. Love the barn but most of all the colors and softness in the mood of the take.

  13. Turkey vultures are quite beautiful as they soar through the sky. Then you see their head and wonder how something so elegant be so ugly.

I like this shot. Great colors and I love old barns.

  14. This reminds me of the area in southern Illinois where my husband grew up...beautiful landscapes and very weathered old buildings with great photographic appeal. I really like the old white paint and red against the intense green of the surroundings. Vultures...how interesting! I probably would have jumped out of my skin when they suddenly took flight out of that old building, though.

  15. Today I learned a word: vulture! Not a pretty beast, but i like the word.People seem to be still living in the white part of the farm. In the farm where I used to work when I was young, it was the same: old abandoned wooden barn at the entrance, and then the living place.

  16. I agree with one of the comments. The first thing that came to mind is a postcard picture. I love the red roofs against the blue sky, with the green field mixed in.

  17. Bonjour dear James!
This barn and the beauty around it, reminds me so much the area where I use to do my daily walkings here. This picture is amazing, a postcard!I love the path that leads to the barn. Here the weather is not so hot, now it's about 23C. :)
Take lots of ice cream and look for some shadow to rest!
