This great egret was flying near by so I decided to try panning. I know it's far from perfect but It's better than I expected. I'm glad that I was able to capture the reflection of the bird on the water. There is also the blurred reflection of the trees and bushes."Weekend Reflections" rules are simple:

Pretty good job with the pan. Shooting birds in flight is really difficult, and takes lots of practice to get consistently. I have hundreds of lousy shots for each good one.

Maybe you say it's far from perfect because you were hoping it would come out clear and detailed like a National Geographic photo. But I think your image captures the idea and feeling of flight rather than a frozen moment. It's a challenging shot and I think you nailed it.

I almost thought they were 2 birds. Egrets are called Kotutu in Maori in New Zealand. My teaching space is called Kotuku.

ReplyDeleteThis is a totally awesome shot. The movement doesn't make it flawed. That is the perfection. You didn't stop the bird in flight, you caught the bird in flight.
