A Civil War General in Philadelphia

This is a statue of Union Civil War General George McClellan on his horse. It stands next to Philadelphia's City Hall. This statue was created in 1894 by Henry Jackson Ellicott.

I recently started taking night pictures and it's become addicting. I think I'd start a night photo meme if I didn't already have Weekend Reflections. Philadelphia is only 20 miles away so I hopped on the train and spent a few hours taking pictures earlier this evening. It's very interesting city with lots of history. I think I'll be spending a lot more time there.

    I love all the lights in the buildings and the General looks like he may gallop away at any minute.

    the buildings are such a contrast to the statue of the general. Love the reflection of the setting sun. nicely done.

    Love this photo, especially the sun reflections off the statue. (You know you can have more than one meme. Just don't go crazy and have 15!) Another idea, is to start a photo group, with limited membership, like Dot does: http://theworldinblackwhite.blogspot.com/

    Hey James, seems like I've seen this gentleman before, in some hikes around city hall... must be awful to be a general with no war to wage... Guess he didn't notice the no parking signs though.

    All buildings have characteristics.
    The American design is very elegant.
    They in itself emits brightness.

    Yes. His figure is proudhearted.
    It is important almost as same as life.

    Great capture. I told Tara when we went to NJ for the concert the other week that I wanted to go downtown and spend an evening taking night shots. We should have a night time photo walk... I'm a little hesitant to go alone! That and if it would warm up just a bit!

    Historic Philadelphia was our families favorite vacation destination. Fabulous and I would love to see more of your pictures from there. This one is powerful - love the perspective!

    What a great photograph! I have seen that statue and I have to say it looks better through your lens and eye. I also have a Canon T1i and just love it. Did you use a tripod for this shot? Love the starbursts.
