Newtown, Pennsylvania
The stone building in the reflection looks pretty old, but I'm not sure how old. One thing for sure is it isn't as old as the white building on the left side of the reflection.
This is what I found about the white building:
Built in 1686 "Originally a residence, then tavern with other uses. Oldest frame house
still standing in Pennsylvania. Famous as the site of the 1778 Newtown
Skirmish during which Loyalists killed 5 and captured 16 to acquire
cloth being manufactured for use by Washington's troops at Valley Forge.
Now a private residence."
Happy Reflecting !

Imagine living in such an historic house. Probably not furnished with shag carpeting and butterfly chairs. :~}

This is 'quintessential' PA - Just love it. The stone - it takes me right "home" again! And I love stories like the one about the little white house. One of the reasons I love the north east - full of these historical gems! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteWow, I'm always surprised at these so very very clean an clear windows you find to take the pics of your reflections... Interisting building. Have a nice weekend - Ghislana
ReplyDeleteLots of history reflected in that window but I don't think the dog is so impressed.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to imagine a frame house lasting that long ... wonder what their secret is besides using good materials and applying great craftsmanship. Hmmm ... don't see much of that anymore :( I do love the brick building as well ... you seem to have an eye for historic settings, James ... thanks!

I would have guessed that the stone home was the oldest, and that the termites would have had their way with the frame house by now. Please forgive my poor reflections, as my (self-imposed) requirement was to limit my photo selections from my archives to the month of April, 2013.
ReplyDeleteWho would have thought the unassuming white house played a role in history:) First impressions are not in all cases the best one. Have a great weekend, James!
ReplyDeleteThe red brick building is gorgeous. I've not been fortunate enough to visit places like the white building- so wonderful that it's not been torn down.
ReplyDeleteHi! The reflection in the window is very impressive. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteIncredible reflection James. At 1st I thought it was taken inside the building looking out through the window with just some slight reflections showing in the glass.
ReplyDeleteWonderful old building! Reminds me of some in Virginia's old cities.
ReplyDeleteGreat reflection and what a history about the white house. Had no idea it was so old.
ReplyDeleteThat is really old! and beautiful too.
ReplyDeleteIf not for the sign in mirror image I'd never think this was a reflection. Thanks James.
this reflection looks very real. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting :)
