Meet Bucky the Hobo Cat

Do you see Bucky? When I took this picture I didn't see him. I walked around a bit taking pictures and didn't see him in this one until I got home.

Here comes poor sick Bucky to the big old softy with the camera
This story began on Saturday as Vicki and I were leaving to go to breakfast. That morning I woke up thinking about finding a cat, which is strange because it had only happened once before and that was over 20 yrs ago. Anyway back to Vicki and me at our doorstep.
Out of the blue I said, "I'm not going to look for the next cat that we get" Vicki asked what I meant, and I told her that I woke up with a strong feeling that our next cat should find us and we should help it and give it a home. Then we both laughed and she said "when was the last time that happened, I guess it will be a long time before we get another cat." lol

Fast forward to Sunday.
I went out by myself to take some pictures along the road that we traveled to get to Peddler's Village the day before, but I forgot to make a turn and ended up in a place that I'd never been before. I saw an old abandoned train and depot so I stopped to take some pictures. After a while I saw a poor sickly orange cat emerge from under the train. He has a bad cold and dehydration, a small part of his ear is gone, he's missing some teeth and his eyes look funny, but he is so sweet and lovable. We took him to the Vet the next morning/yesterday. The Vet took blood tests and gave him some meds. Then I bought him a comfortable bed and a stuffed toy. He's sick and weak but seems happy and grateful.

Bucky is now staying in our laundry room until he recovers and is able to meet Simba and Lucy. I found him near the abandoned Buckingham Valley train depot and the Buckingham Lumber yard and they are in Buckingham PA, which is in Buck's County, so I named him Bucky.
I didn't want another cat but I can't help but think that he is meant to be with us.

  9. Yes, I do believe that he was meant to be with you! What a wonderful act of kindness! You and Vicki are just as I have expected, just from getting to know you through your blogs - AWESOME folks!

Love the name! Tara thought you should name him Jimmy, (she did not know your name is James), but now that I told her the Bucky story, she thinks it is an awesome name!

  11. So glad that Bucky found a good home. He looks like he will be a handsome fella once he gets some TLC. Our little Sax was an abandoned cat (found by our daughter in a rainpuddle next to a dumpster) and she has turned out to be the BEST cat, bar none, that we have ever had (and we've had alot of cats over the years since I work for a vet) Good for you! and even better for Bucky. Do keep him isolated until he's well, those URI's can spread like wildfire. Thanks for a big smile today! Kathy

  12. What a fantastic story. He most certainly is meant to live with you. I hope Bucky recovers as much as is possible and brings you both a lot of joy.

I wish I could have cats again but two of our daughters are allergic.

We found a home for a kitty that we thought might be pregnant. The kind woman whom we drove 70 miles to get to with her (we named her Lucy too, and her new owner kept that name. Kind Lady knew that Lucy might be pregnant and took her anyway. Last we checked on her facebook page, Lucy had give birth to four kittens, all of which had homes even before they were born.

Sorry to carry on about it, but these stories do warm the heart so!

Also, loved the Paris WW photo. I lived in Paris as a young child and that shot looks particularly familiar. I couldn't leave a comment on that blog (having a lot of trouble with that on some blogs).

    Best,
    Gina

  29. Special people to be sure. I hope th hear more about your new guy and send healing, healthful wishes for him.

I'm a bit slow lately, computer completely crashed, lost most everything that wasn't backed up so I am now getting a new computer into shape. Seems my rss feeds are giving me a hard time as well. Eventually I will get this system into shape to serve my usual needs. Not a good time I had so many deadlines hanging over my head and lost so much.... but you do what you have to do.

Here is hoping that Bucky does well in his new home, obviously you have no idea how long he 'did what he had to do' to get by. Long enough to fall into the hands of angels that will make the rest of his life as comfortable as possible. Was the vet able to give you some idea of his age? We took in a stray and the vet had a look at his teeth and thought he was perhaps around 3 years old. Certainly it is hard to pin down that way, but at least gives you a ball park idea.
Lots of hugs to you and Vicky and scritches to the kitties.

  30. Bucky is the perfect colour for pumpkin season too...isn't he. That was a wonderful gesture making him part of your home. In this season of Thanksgiving, it is also nice to be kind to the odd strays who roam our neighbourhoods. After all, pets are people too....don't ya' think?
