The Olde Church of St. Andrew

This is the Catholic church that's across the street from my apartment. I think I've posted about it before. It was built in 1880 and it has a cemetery on the side. On the other side of the cemetery there's a park and a creek runs behind them. I've walked there many times and I've always had the place to myself.

Puzzled Reflection (Weekend Reflections # 23)

I think this reflection looks very unusual almost like it was painted onto the window. I think the reflection looks sort of like a puzzle that's not quite put together. It's also a puzzle because I can't remember where I took the picture.

More Snow and Wind

Looking down from my apartment window I see my neighbor digging her car out and the student walking home from school in the snow will have a story for his grandkids someday.

I was alerted to the latest snowstorm by fellow Pennsylvania blogger Rebecca. She did a post yesterday titled "Snowicane". I've learned not to put much stock in weather predictions so I don't know how much snow we'll get. The photos above were taken from my bedroom window during the snowstorm that took out or power a couple of weeks ago. It continued to snow heavily for several more hours after these pictures were taken. I think we got between two and three feet of the white stuff.

A Tree and a Field in early Winter

Last month I started a long walk near the tree in the top photo. After walking a long way and circling back I spotted the tree again from the middle of the field. It may have been winter but it gave me a spring in my step. I suppose I could have titled this post "The start and the finish".

A cold Day in Philly

I took this picture a couple of weeks ago in Philadelphia. There was steam coming out of the ground so I thought it would make a cool effect with the people behind it. I had to get pretty low to the ground to take this shot. I can only imagine how funny I must have looked. Especially since the front of my pants were soaked by the melted snow. :)

Surrealistic Reflectionism (Weekend Reflections # 22)

I like this photo but I think it would have been better if there was a person looking at the camera from one of the windows. Come to think of it they would be looking at my back since the building is a reflection. The gold ring in this picture is a big antique flood light perhaps from a lighthouse or old ship. It is inside of the antique store so it's not a reflection.

The Remains of a Farm in Tinicum Pennsylvania

This place reminded me of something out of an old movie




It was a real blast from the past.

Beautiful even in old age and disrepair, only the faintest hint of it's red paint remains.

I had to drive for a while on a muddy one lane dirt road then after that I turned back on to a paved country road called Gruver road. That's where I found this place. I rolled down the car window and snapped a few shots. I was very tempted to drive in and really photograph the place. I wonder how old it is?

Two hundred and eleven year old "Elm Lowne" Horse Stables. I took these pictures with my pocket camera last spring or summer.

One of Many Bucks County Farms

I was really far away from this farm but my zoom lens helped to get the shot. I'd like to take more pictures of this place in different seasons.

I'm fortunate to live in an area rich in history and beautiful scenery. There are dozens of old farms, some are still working and others are just land with wonderfully dilapidated barns, silos and assorted ruins. The problem is most of them are in places where there is no place for me to park, and there are "no trespassing" signs everywhere. I recently decided to take the bull by the horns and try my best to take pictures of the places. So that means slowing down and snapping pictures out of the car window or parking far away and walking, whatever it takes to capture these treasures.

Sunny from Barnyards and Barnacles is a big inspiration when it comes to photographing scenes like this.

Sparkling Cold Reflections (Weekend Reflections # 21)

I'm living in an icy world so here are some little worlds and even the sun reflected in upside down icy drops.

The power finally came back on! So I'm able to post a picture. Thanks for the concern and nice comments. I think that I mentioned before how unprepared Vicki and can be. We did finally get a snow shovel which I used for about an hour Thursday simultaneously digging out the car and throwing out my back. We didn't have any candles so with just a small flashlight it was a cold and dark Wednesday night. I bought a couple of battery powered lanterns today so now we're better prepared. On the bright side the food in the refrigerator didn't spoil since it was so cold in the house. That's done, now it's time for reflections!

No Electricity Due to Blizzard

Hi Friends,

We had a power outage that started yesterday and could last into the weekend. Thankfully, I was able to get a few minutes on a computer out of the effected area. Weekend Reflections will be up tomorrow as usual. Sorry I'm not able to visit and make comments. I hope to be back soon!

The Tiny Iceman of Newtown

From the side I noticed his shape.



Then I noticed his hat.

Then I noted what looks like hair coming out from under his hat, his sloped shoulders and pot belly.

I walked to the little downtown part of Newtown today. I was trying out my new 50mm lens which means that I really have to keep my eyes open and think about what's going to fit shots into the small frame. Then I have to walk over and compose the shot. I'm used to being lazy and zooming things in with my 18-270mm lens. While I was walking I saw something out of the corner of my eye next to a pile of snow. It looked just like a little man made out of ice. I should note that this iceman is smaller than a finger. Maybe it's a fallen icicle?

Magnolia No-57

Sunday was a beautiful day so Vicki and I took a drive and we ended up in a little town called Frenchtown in New Jersey. The side of this building caught my eye. I like the bricks, the fire escape and the shadow of the tree. The title of the post is what's written on the front of the building.

Snow Way

Checkout the large snowflake falling past my patio chair.

Several hours later that snowflake was part of this sand dune looking pile on my patio.
Both of these were taken on Saturday from inside my house. This time I just fired off a few rapid shots hoping I'd get a snowflake. Next I'll try to capture a snowflake that's in better focus.

To the Stars (Weekend Reflections # 20)

Last week was the Sun and Moon so this week I'll take you to the stars.
This photo is hard to explain, but I'll try. This is the rectangular center section of a restaurant in Munich. The glass is see through but very reflective and you are seeing the tiny lights (plus their reflections) that are hanging above the open air shopping mall below the restaurant. The bigger lights are the restaurant's lights and their reflections. To the left is a food counter and some tables, the tables and lights surround this glass center section. look down and you'll see the shopping mall, straight ahead is another building. The sky could be seen above but only as a reflection in this picture.

What the ....?

Again this was in between storms the surf was high and the wind was gusting at over 40mph.
The sun kept going in and out of the clouds which made the lighting very unusual at times.



The picture above was supposed to be my last one because of all of the blowing sand but then I saw this huge kite and I wondered how someone could fly it in this wind and not end up in the water.

So I took a closer look and saw the surfer being pulled by the kite and I said "what the .... ?"

I've seen this before but never in conditions like these. I still wonder how he or she made it back to shore with such high winds and big choppy waves. This week for Outdoor Wednesday we move a couple miles down the coast to Balboa Beach.
I'm glad that I got these shots but in hindsight it wasn't very smart to take pictures with all of the sand blowing around. I got lucky this time.

Amigos Watching the Sunset

I was going to title this post 3 Amigos watching the sunset then I looked closely at the top photo and saw the fourth little head popping up between two of the birds.

These were taken at Laguna beach in California.
