Winter Snapshots

Newtown, Pennsylvania~
This barn is pretty close to my house so I decided to take a few shots through my car window on my way to the park this afternoon. Now I just have to remember to submit it to Tricia's Barn Charm meme.
I took the bottom photo on Friday. As you can see it's very similar to my Weekend Reflections photo except this one has even more snow and it was taken with my point and shoot.

Cold and Lonesome Road (Weekend Reflections #71)

Newtown, Pennsylvania~

I took this shot because I liked the angle and curve of the road. I also like the contrast between the road and snow.

I thought the jogger was crazy to be out in the cold but then I realized that he probably thought the same thing about me. :)

Looking Back at a Barn (Weekend Reflections # 70)

Newtown, Pennsylvania~

There are lots of roads like this in Newtown, one lane for each direction and as you can see no place to park. Sometimes I have to be creative if I want to take a picture. This is the view from down the road of the barn with the blowing snow that I posted the other day.

I won't be around very much this weekend or the coming week so I wish you all a great week!

Winter Sunset over an Old Farm

Newtown, PA

It must have been a working farm at one time but now it's part of Core Creek Park. I was there taking pictures of big tree that I like when I noticed the old corn rows leading to a beautiful sunset.

Wintery Newtown

A look at an old railroad bridge through the car's windshield.

One of the many barns along the back roads of Newtown
The barn photo was a drive by click and I took the top one from the passanger seat while Vicki was driving. :)

30TH Street Station (Weekend Reflections # 69)

Philadelphia Pennsylvania-
This is the 30TH street train station in Philadelphia and the lights are reflecting on the Schuylkill River. This will be my photo for the Sunday Bridges meme also.

Philadelphia Belle and Philadelphia Ben

Penn's Landing Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-
The riverboat is named Philadelphia Belle and the bridge is named Benjamin Franklin. I think they make a cute couple. The river is the Delaware, this side is Philadelphia Pennsylvania
and the other side is Camden New Jersey.
You can tell that it was cold and windy by the snow on the ground and the blur of the waving flags. When the wind is blowing it's hard to get a shot that's not blurry even when I use a tripod.
The other day I said I would give some tips about night photography. I still haven't taken a photography class or even read a book about it yet so keep that in mind.
I'll just share what I do and I hope it helps others.
1) use a tripod
2) use the camera's two second delay
3) try to take your time and not rush the shot
4) try to take more than one shot of the same things (because it ups the chance of getting a good one)
5) never touch the camera or tripod while the picture is being taken
6) use manual settings
7)wider apertures and higher ISO equals more light while smaller and lower equals darker pictures
8) try shooting the same thing with several different camera settings(to see which is best)
9)study and learn from other people
That's about all I can think of right now. I'm hoping to get a couple of photography for my birthday next month so I'll do an update post if I learn something new.
I'm always happy to learn so if anyone has tips or critiques about my photos please let me know.
This is my Watery Wednesday post.

A Philadelphia Stranger in the Night

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-
I posted this photo in black and white at my other blog and promised to show the color version here.
This is an alley in Old City area of Philadelphia. I saw the guy walking and I ran over set up my tripod, clicked the shutter and hoped for the best. I'm happy with the photo but I can't decide if I like this version or the black and white one better. He's kind of spooky like a walking shadow don't you think? :)

When I walk around a city taking night photos I keep my camera on the tripod and I usually wear the camera and tripod strapped around my neck. I bet I'd make a pretty funny street photo for somebody. It's like a giant necklace that would put Mr. T to shame. :)

You can see it in black and white version here.

Stuck in the Middle (Weekend Reflections #68)

Philadelphia Pennsylvania-
This might be the first time that I've posted two photos for Weekend Reflections. I like the bottom crop best but I wanted to show all of Philadelphia's unique city hall. If you enlarge the top photo you might be able to see the huge statue of William Penn on top of the City Hall. The City Hall was designed to be the tallest building in the world but by the time it was completed it was already surpassed by the Washington Monument and the Eiffel Tower, However it was the Tallest inhabitable building in the world until 1908.
A few people have asked me for night photo tips.
Tip #1 use a tripod! I'll follow up with lots more tips as I'm able to figure them out and put them together.

A Civil War General in Philadelphia

This is a statue of Union Civil War General George McClellan on his horse. It stands next to Philadelphia's City Hall. This statue was created in 1894 by Henry Jackson Ellicott.

I recently started taking night pictures and it's become addicting. I think I'd start a night photo meme if I didn't already have Weekend Reflections. Philadelphia is only 20 miles away so I hopped on the train and spent a few hours taking pictures earlier this evening. It's very interesting city with lots of history. I think I'll be spending a lot more time there.
