Empty Cemetery Skywatch

The statue seems to be juggling three clouds of of them has a jet inside.

The statue has a few wasp nests under her arm. (click to enlarge if needed)

Around the base of the statue is the biblical verse "Luke 1:45" was written in a translation that I'm not familiar with.
While taking a drive on Sunday I spotted a huge gated entryway with a road that wound up a hill. There was beautiful green grass on both sides, and at the top of the hill was a statue of either Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist, or Mary the mother of Jesus. The gate was open so I went in. There was a house on the other side of the hill but I seemed to be the only person in this expansive green area. I took a few pictures and as I left I noticed that it was the spot for a future cemetery. Which made perfect sense.
There was plenty of beautiful blue sky all around.
Please check out Skywatch Friday.

Excellent shots! I can understand why Mary is keeping her arms up...

When I was in NYC (thinking of this because I saw what I'm about to say while being driven to Pa. by my cousin), I saw several signs that read, "Active cemetery." I thought that was amusing; never seen that before. I imagine (hope) it means that the cemetery is still being used, not that everyone is up and about...!

You have a very special humor for action shots ^__^
First that iron bird up the statue and a wasp nests under her arm
REALLY amazing shots :)))))

Your first shot is funny and beautyful at the same time. The place will be perfect for a cemetery, so peaceful..

I do non wish to be disrespectful but this lady, especially in the last view from behind, seems a little crazy standing on that sphere...
The first shot with the plane and the clouds is even better and the malicious detail of the wasp nests enhance greatly the status of the middle one. Great catch!

Sistertex said...

Certain aspects of the far shot where you can see her on the sphere stuck me in a more bedraggled way than uplifting. I think it is a fantastic statue and love the inscription, but to me it could mean either happiness, or sadness. Might even just be the fact that I know she has to keep her arms up in order to keep from being stung!;)

The prayer for the aeroplane was funny. Some airlines could use some prayers these days.

Sylvia K said...

This is fantastic, James! You do indeed have an eye for composition! I love the juggling of clouds and airplane. Chrome3d is right some-- maybe all airlines could use some intervention like this. And I'm glad that wasp nest is in and angel's armpit and not mine! Great start for my day! Thank you!

Have a great weekend!

Sylvia

Beautiful stature - hope it is not on federal land, because they have a campaign of removing Christian's symbols from there - very sad! Great picture!

AWESOME SHOT!

What an eye you have for the most perfect of perfect photography!

I can see the juggling of the 3 clouds, also it looks like she is going to squash the little airplane like a mosquito. Wasps nests in her armpits, that seems wrong. Lovely photos of a lovely statue.

These are beautiful shots James. I'm pretty sure that this is Mary, Mother of Jesus. The full quote is: "Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished!" NIV. :)
