I posted some pictures of a building in Trenton New Jersey on my Something Sighted blog. That got me thinking about Trenton and since it's not too far away I went there today for about an hour and took a few more pictures.I don't know anything about this building but it seems like it could be a night club.
I can imagine this place 50 years ago filled with well dressed people smoking and drinking while listening to jazz that was smoother than honey and cooler than the ice in their drinks.
That's probably far from the real story but it's fun to imagine.

That's a good imagination! The black and white image makes it look rather deserted.
A very interesting assortment of textures, I love how it is framed with the trees. The letters do give the feel of another era.

Your story brings this so to life. I can just picture that as well. I love it :) When I saw the title in my google reader I thought what the hell is he doing with Maxine (that cartoon character lady) LOL

Like you, the design of letters and the mood of the picture made me think about the fifties..
Humm, listening to "smooth and cool" Jazz, in the darkness of a night-club, with candles on the tables..(sigh..)
Gosh, take away the parking meter and newspaper dispenser and it would almost look like a Parisian scene...or am I thinking of Maxim's?? :<)
A name like Maxine's is certainly evocative.
I liked your imagination, in fact I did know nothing about this name or place, but I could imagine the story following your words!

This has such a beautiful retro look to it the black and white makes it look right out of a news paper clip!

I love the old timey look of it. Being in black and white really makes it look like the picture came out of someone's trunk in an attic. Is it still open for business?

I used to see this place from my office window. I remember when it opened, and when it closed. Just couldn't get the customers to come at night. Has it re-opened? I love your photograph. It captures what the original owners had intended. Lizzy :)
