Gente di Trastevere/People of Trastevere (Weekend Street/Reflections # 56)

When I saw these people sitting in a bar in the Trastevere neighborhood in Rome one evening in 2016, it reminded me of a rare old street photo book from the early 1960s called "Gente di Trastevere by Carlo Bavagnoli."

Can you see the shadowy figure under the light at the top of the stairs? As the fog rolled in it felt like I'd stepped into a film noir or a horror movie.

This was a spur-of-the-moment "street portrait." Without any forethought, I walked into the shop, said hello, snapped the picture, and left. I heard him laughing as I walked away.
