Rainy Day (Weekend Street/Reflections # 33)

 Doylestown, Pennsylvania

The farmer's market in Doylestown Pennsylvania on 13 September 2014. It probably wasn't a very profitable day.

Have a good weekend!

Philadelphia Romance (Weekend Street/Reflections # 32)

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

This cool December evening in 2015 seems like a lifetime ago. If I remember correctly the violinist was playing Winter by Vivaldi.

Bon week-end!

Le Flipper (Weekend Street/Reflections # 30)

 Lyon, France

Unlike last week's photo, there was little chance of these guys noticing me. It's been a while since I've played a pinball machine, but I remember how captivating they can be.

Have a great weekend!

La Gazza Ladra/The Thieving Magpie (Weekend Street/Reflections # 28)

 Florence, Italy

La Gazza Ladra (The Thieving Magpie in English) is a pretty cool name for a jewelry store. The woman in front of the shop was either smoking a cigarette or blowing me a kiss.😀

La gazza ladra is also an opera semiseria by Gioachino Rossini.

I hope you are having a good summer!

Next Stop, Bologna Centrale (Weekend Street/Reflections # 13)

Bologna, Italy

It was 2014. We were on a train from Florence to Venice or maybe it was from Venice to Florence. My wife was trying to read a book called "Cat Bearing Gifts" while the two women were having a slightly loud conversation. Maybe I should have paid extra for “la carrozza silenzio.” Just kidding. They didn't bother my wife and I found them entertaining.

Un Flâneur dans la Ville (Weekend Street/Reflections # 11)

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

"The French Quarter is an official district of Philadelphia, designated by the city, stretching between 17th and 19th streets east and west and Walnut and Sansom streets north to south. The designation was formalized in 1999. According to City Paper, the French Quarter of Philadelphia "... is one of the few places outside of France to support a flourishing French culture" although "it remains largely unknown to tourists and locals alike. "

"Le quartier français est un quartier officiel de Philadelphie, désigné par la ville, qui s'étend entre les 17e et 19e rues est et ouest et les rues Walnut et Sansom du nord au sud. La désignation a été officialisée en 1999. Selon City Paper , le quartier français de Philadelphie "... est l'un des rares endroits hors de France à soutenir une culture française florissante " même si "il reste largement méconnu des touristes et des autochtones".

En attente d'un retour à la vie normale ?(Weekend Street/Reflections # 9)

Paris, France

In February of 2020 this woman was waiting for a bus, but I imagine she's now waiting for a return of normal life.

Compared to a lot of places, life in my city has remained fairly normal. No lockdowns have been enforced, people enjoy the beach and go to restaurants. Masks are optional outside but most business require them to be worn inside. Thankfully, we haven't had a major Covid problem here. Less than 5% of the population have been infected, and for those infected, the survival rate is nearly 100%.

Hopefully everyone will enjoy freedom again soon.

Libreria Acqua Alta (Weekend/Street Reflections # 4)

 Venice, Italy

Libreria Acqua Alta is a very unique bookstore in Venice. It's a must-see if you like books, boats, and cats. I took a picture of the boss trying to explain something to his human employee. 😸

Un p'tit apéro avec Le Capitaine Haddock ? (Weekend Street Reflections # 2)

Bonsoir les gars /Good evening guys

The guy on the right kind of resembles Captain Haddock from The Adventures of Tintin. If only he had a pipe instead of a cigarette. 😀

Busy reflection (Weekend Reflections # 561)

Lyon, France

This is a reflection in a window of one of the shops on Rue de la République. The pedestrian street wasn't very busy but the pattern of the security gate behind the glass makes this reflection a little busy.

Happy reflecting!

A Heart for Lyon (Weekend Reflections # 554)

Lyon, France

On this evening I was meandering through Passage de l'Argue looking for an interesting reflection. I heard a group of young people talking behind me, and at the same time I noticed this reflection of a multi-colored heart. As I was trying to figure out a good angle to capture it, the group passed me and gathered right in the shot. I was annoyed and I remember thinking some not so nice thoughts. I took this shot while I waited, hoping they would leave. Then I heard what they were saying. They were taking care of an old homeless man who was taking shelter in the covered passage. Their concern and offers of help sounded genuine and loving, and I felt ashamed for being so self-centered. It was good to see compassionate youth.

Happy Mother's Day

Un Rêve Lucide (Weekend Reflections # 552)

Paris, France

When I saw this reflection I had the same feeling as I do when I suddenly realize that I'm dreaming. It's usually triggered by something familiar but not quite right. The feeling is usually disconcerting and sometimes startles me awake, other times I adapt and go with it. During the past few months I've had similar feelings about this strange new world we've been thrust into. However, I'm pretty sure I'm awake.

Have a great weekend!

Happy New Year! (Weekend Reflections # 379)

Lyon, France

This is a reflection of a dragon, people and some buildings in Lyon. The dragon was part of Lyon's light festival (Fête des Lumières). It's reflected in a window. The red streaks are from a Fête des Lumières poster behind the glass.

Thank you for being a part of Weekend Reflections! I hope that you all ring in the New Year with health and happiness!
