This is a nighttime view of Balboa Peninsula. I took the photo from Balboa Island. The building with all the lights is The Balboa Pavilion, it's over a hundred years old and that's ancient by Orange County standards. :) I also took a picture of this building's reflection in the window on the island side of the water. Surreal Waterfront (Weekend Reflections # 96)

Balboa Island, Newport Beach, Ca

The two people walked into the reflection and I'm glad they did. If you look very closely you might be able to see the black statue of a boy sitting under the tree at the top of the stairs that lead to the water or in this case the land because this is upside down.
In case you couldn't tell, almost everything in this photo is an upside down reflection on water. :)

Island Reflections (Weekend Reflections # 92)

Balboa Island, Newport Beach, California

Vicki and I love to take evening walks on Balboa Island. Normally I watch the sunset but this time I turned around in time to discover some pretty cool reflections. About a second after I took this shot a duck swam by and ruined the reflections. :)

Philadelphia Belle and Philadelphia Ben

Penn's Landing Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-
The riverboat is named Philadelphia Belle and the bridge is named Benjamin Franklin. I think they make a cute couple. The river is the Delaware, this side is Philadelphia Pennsylvania

and the other side is Camden New Jersey.

You can tell that it was cold and windy by the snow on the ground and the blur of the waving flags. When the wind is blowing it's hard to get a shot that's not blurry even when I use a tripod.

The other day I said I would give some tips about night photography. I still haven't taken a photography class or even read a book about it yet so keep that in mind.

I'll just share what I do and I hope it helps others.

1) use a tripod

2) use the camera's two second delay

3) try to take your time and not rush the shot

4) try to take more than one shot of the same things (because it ups the chance of getting a good one)

5) never touch the camera or tripod while the picture is being taken

6) use manual settings

7)wider apertures and higher ISO equals more light while smaller and lower equals darker pictures

8) try shooting the same thing with several different camera settings(to see which is best)

9)study and learn from other people

That's about all I can think of right now. I'm hoping to get a couple of photography for my birthday next month so I'll do an update post if I learn something new.

I'm always happy to learn so if anyone has tips or critiques about my photos please let me know.

Home Again

It's great to be back! With the exception of this photo and some for Weekend Reflections I'll be be posting the pictures that I took in Europe on my other blog Something Sighted. I've already posted a few and I'll be posting them for a long time to come. This picture is another version of my other blog's new header photo. I hope you all enjoyed Weekend Reflections while I was away. I'm looking forward to the fun this weekend!

The boy in this picture just stood there in awe of the Eiffel Tower for quite a while.

Industrial Waterway

I've been posting lots of rural pictures lately so I figured I'd mix it up with a dingy, smog filled, watery city scence. *I should add that it was really a beautiful day when I took this, but I'm tryng to create a dreary mood for this photo.

A Nice Day in Philadelphia

I took these pictures last Friday. Do you recognize the lamps in the bottom picture?(Hint=yesterday's B&W photo) This is the restaurant where I had lunch and took the picture of the battleship from my table. The middle picture is the top of the Seaport museum which I haven't been to yet. The top picture is a cool old ship that has been turned into a restaurant. I'll post more pictures of it at another time.
