Le Flâneur nocturne (Weekend Reflections # 278)

Paris, France

Paris does not fully reveal itself to those who merely pass through. It offers itself more freely to those who wander without purpose, letting the rain decide the rhythm of their steps.

                                            Have a great weekend!

  Link reflections and/or street photography.

Please refrain from posting posed pictures, portraits, animals, etc., unless there is a reflection.

Street photography is a genre that documents everyday life in public places. The public nature of the setting allows the photographer to take candid pictures of strangers, often without their knowledge.

Lazy rain (Weekend Street/Reflections # 252)

Paris, France - from my archives

-Jules Renard

It’s rained almost every day this past week, which is unusual for Southern California. I'm thankful for the much-needed water, but sadly, I've been too lazy to take pictures of puddle reflections. In fact, I don't think I've taken a single picture in 2025. I need to find some inspiration!

                                            Have a great weekend!

"Je suis la galette, la galette
Je suis faites avec le blé ramassé dans le grenier
On m'a mis à refroidir mais j'ai mieux aimé courir
Attrape-moi si tu peux!"

Rain Over the Louvre (Weekend Street/Reflections # 236)

Paris, France

Rain cascaded over Paris, tracing the ancient lines of the Louvre's stone facade and pooling around the glass pyramid, a modern heart beating amid the city's timeless pulse. The Arc de Triomphe du carrousel loomed faintly through the mist, its arches guarding echoes of revolutions past. The Seine, unseen but felt, murmured beneath the wet streets, weaving through a metropolis where every raindrop seemed to carry the weight of centuries—history, art, and resilience fused into the city's soul.

Une micro-fiction (Weekend Street/Reflections # 231)

 Paris, France

Debout devant son instrument qui semble prêt à s écrouler à chaque note, le musicien éméché a grogné, renversé un verre de vin, qui s'est brisé sur le sol et dit;

"Tu appelles ça de l’accordage ?" tandis que l’archet glissait pour la troisième fois il enchaîne "J’ai entendu mieux d’un contrebassiste qui a trop bu au bistrot !"

Soudain, les applaudissements fusent et public rit fortement, conscient que sa consommation d'alcool, son mépris de soi et son humour ironique étaient aussi célèbres que ses solos.

Un peu plus tard j'ai ri dans ma barbe en sirotant mon vin.

Oh, quel spectacle !

(Standing in front of his instrument, which looked like it was about to fall apart with every note, the half-drunk musician grumbled, knocked over a glass of wine, and said:
“You call that tuning?” as the bow slipped for the third time. He followed up with, “I’ve heard better from a drunk double bassist in a dive bar!”
Suddenly, the crowd erupted in applause and laughter, well aware that his boozing, self-deprecation, and sarcastic humor were as legendary as his solos.

A bit later, I chuckled to myself while sipping my wine.

Man, what a show!)

Le petit navigateur (Weekend Street/Reflections # 107)

Paris. France

A simple concept that has existed for more than 150 years in the pools of the Jardins des Tuileries in Paris.

A breath of wind in the sails of these small boats and, with them, sails the happiness of the children directing them with their gaff.

La Pluie (Weekend Street/Reflections # 86)

 Paris, France

"Tombe tombe tombe la pluie

Le ciel est gris la pluie s'invite comme par surprise

elle est chez nous et comme un rite qui nous enlise

les parapluies s'ouvrent en cadence

comme une danse,

les gouttes tombent en abondance

sur douce France."

Le dernier clope (du condamné) (Weekend Street/Reflections # 7)

Paris, France

This reminded me of a song by Louise Attaque.

 Le dernier clope

"Le dernier clope du condamné   (The last cigarette of the condemned)

Etait d'l'Amsterdammer roulé

Vous pouvez me croire

Moi j'ai vérifié

Sans filtre

Et peu tassé

Et toute sa dernière heure

Il disait :

"Je préférais la liberté

à  l'abri des regards indiscrets"" - Louise Attaque

Galerie de Montpensier (Weekend Reflections # 578)

Paris, France

Reflections of a hanging lamp and a woman walking in Le Jardin du Palais Royal.

Palais Royal will always have special place in my heart. It's where I stayed on my first several trips to Paris. I used to be able to open the apartment door and step out onto the covered walkway inside of the gates of Palais Royal. The other door opened to Rue de Montpensier. I used to use that door when I wanted to walk to the local boulangerie patisserie, "Au Grand Richelieu." They had the most delicious pain au chocolat and I was always greeted with a warm smile from the proprietor Claude and his cat.😀

Claude couldn't speak English and I couldn't speak French (except for bonjour, s'il vous plait and merci), but it never made a difference. The Boulangerie Patisserie Au Grand Richelieu was over 200 years old, but sadly, it closed its doors forever several years ago. Another place that I have fond memories of was a little restaurant on Rue Thérèse called Chez Stella. Stella ran the place and interacted with guests like it was her home and not a restaurant. Sadly, that is gone too. Thank God for memories.

Have a great weekend!

Jeanne d'Arc (Weekend Reflections # 541)

Paris. France

It might look like Joan of Arc is going to crash into the chandelier but fear not because she's a reflection and the chandelier is on the other side of the window inside of a hotel.  :-)

I'll be away for a couple of weeks but Weekend Reflections has been scheduled to post at the normal times.

A Fragment of a Memory (Weekend Reflections # 538)

Paris, France

I don't remember where I was coming from or where I was going when I took this photo, but I do remember where I was when I took it. I was standing in front of Hôtel de Vendôme at the entrance to Place Vendôme.

Boutique de Montres de Luxe MATY (Weekend Reflections # 415)

Paris, France

A reflection in the window of  MATY, a watch and jewelry store. This picture is 100% reflection plus there are lights reflected on the wet road so maybe it should be considered 110% reflection. :-)

I know it's sometimes hard to tell reflections from non reflections without some perspective or clues. In this case the clues are the words on the street signs and on the side of the opera house.

I'm praying for those affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

Happy Reflecting!

Sphérades (Weekend Reflections # 377)

Paris, France

I'm back from my trip. I had a wonderful time, but I'm happy to be home. Thank you for your comments on my posts while I was away. I enjoyed reading them when I had free time and internet connection.

I was in Paris for a few days and took this shot of a fountain in Palais-Royal. I wish the balls were cleaner, but they sure do make for some fun reflection photos.
