A cold Day in Philly

I took this picture a couple of weeks ago in Philadelphia. There was steam coming out of the ground so I thought it would make a cool effect with the people behind it. I had to get pretty low to the ground to take this shot. I can only imagine how funny I must have looked. Especially since the front of my pants were soaked by the melted snow. :)

I like the ghostly figures in the steam.

What we photographers go through to get our shots. This turned out great!

The steam DID create a great shot! This is really good, therefore, the wet knees were worth it! :)

LOL...what you good photographers will do for a photo. :) LOL It is excellent. And the steam just adds so much to this. :)

Steam gives a great effect to the picture, even more in B&W. It seems to be so cold!!
I often picture photographers doing strange things to make their pictures, maybe someone had pictured you?!..Ü

This is a great shot James. But it reminds me of why I'm glad we live in Texas lol. Although they are predicting snow for Tuesday (it was 74 here Sunday, go figure). Thanks for sacrificing the icy knees to share this shot with us! Kathy

Nice! The people behind the steam almost disappear.

I'm replacing my kitchen floor and purchased a set of knee pads that would have come in handy for this shot.

Aren't you accustomed to lying down on the pavement?! Very nice effect here.

Oh you are making me crazy!!! I am so glad I found your blog! What a great shot. It's wonderful to see a native Californian embrace my hometown with such relish and scope. The black and white is perfect and the steam over the figures on the right... well, all I can say is Great Eye!

Being not a lover of B&W, my appreciation for this picture, against my bias, has obviously some added value.
Great choice and excellent framing, even the title is perfect.

Cold and steam are scenes setting off each other well.
It is wonderful composition that some sidewalk become the slope.

Wow, James this is fantastic. I am always wondering what people must think of me when I am crouching or laying flat out on the ground to take a photo.
