Several hours later that snowflake was part of this sand dune looking pile on my patio.
Both of these were taken on Saturday from inside my house. This time I just fired off a few rapid shots hoping I'd get a snowflake. Next I'll try to capture a snowflake that's in better focus.

Great shots!
How much snow did you end up with? The storm missed us this time and that's fine with me.
Have a great week, James.
Sunny :)
Both images are really beautiful and somehow very romantic. I guess it is snow all around.
Good luck, it isn't that easy to get the snowflake, and I hate to tell you, this is actually cluster of snowflakes if you to zoom on it. I will check in later for more snowflakes, lol.....Happy winter! Anna :)
I tell you James, this are magnificent. This is the second snowflake today I've seen on a blog. You MUST check out Carletta's. She did the same thing and it's wonderful. I had know idea you could capture them like this. And further, I had no idea they really looked like this. I thought they were just little masses of snow. Stupid I know. Brilliant my friend. Absolutely stunning. TBK
No idea this was possible with our normal means. A great capture and an original idea, I'm sure you can even improve on this. Bravo!
Excellent shots! Good job!
The second one looks like moon ground!
But the first one is soooooo romantic!
Both photos are beautiful! Snow is lightly falling here again, too...getting a bit tired of it.
Wow, I'm impressed. Great capture, you must have alot of patience! How much snow did you end up getting? Our niece in Philly got 28 inches - that's crazy nuts, but it sure made for some interesting pictures! Kathy
Pretty amazing capture! I ventured out yesterday, but didn't capture anything spectacular :-(
Does look like a sand dune.
Beautiful:) So fairytale... You've got the snow again, poor you!
You must be getting tired of winter by now.
Magic. I've never experience snow fall...
On "how I became famous" by a snowflake!
The second one looks like moon ground!
Work from home India
Good idea for a winter photo. And what a great result.
We are in the middle of a winter storm now...supposed to last until tomorrow and started Saturday.
Nice photos...the snow here has been of the very small flakes variety, but I love watching big, fluffy snowflakes fall.
Nice shot of the snowflake James! Very "cool".
I love the snowflake shot. Really neat.
I tried to do that last week during a moment of snow. Nothing happened on my photos but then I'm no master like you are!
Really amazing shots
but the first snowflake shot is UNIQUE :-)

That's a lot of snowflakes James!
Already good, but the winter doesn't seem to be over, so you will get a new chance for the improved focus, I'm sure! :-)
WOW ... love that first capture especially! That does look like a LOT of snow to me ;-)
Hugs and blessings,
Amazing that you caught just that one flake and captured it for all of time. And then put it in perspective with the second picture. Nice.
One piece may be enough for the snowy crystal.
I feel sorry for a hat.
Hi James,
I'm impressed you caught them falling! Even without enlarging you can see the little points of the various snowflakes.
I'm glad you liked mine. It's not that I'm really unhappy with it. There's lots I like about the shot - the DOF for one which was an accident on my part. :) I really just wanted that one perfect lone snowflake. :)
I was hoping to try again today but the snow we were supposed to get is a rain/sleet mess. To get what I did I took over 130 shots. I do have a couple more that aren't quite as clear. I'd take some, download, take more, until I finally got something worthwhile at least. And it was cold!
If you find out about an easy way to get them I'll hope you'll share.
I'm so glad you came by.
Bravooo! :)
oh gosh, it's fabulous!
Léia :)
All are amazing, especially the last one in the dark
area where the flakes look like they might be
pixels!
I'm so glad you got to see Carletta's. They are both such wonderful shots and you two have great minds to do them. :) TBK
What stunning textures!
Oh James what can I say? Also I am speechless about that little man icicle... :)
