Grand Canal at Night (Weekend Reflections # 103)

Newport Beach, California (Little Balboa Island)

I wish this was a photo of Venice but it's not.
Grand Canal is the name of the walkways on both sides of this canal. Balboa is actually two islands that are connected by a bridge. This is a photo of the little island. I go to Balboa Island almost every night to walk and take pictures. I think both islands combined are only about two miles around so it's a wonder that I'm not bored with it yet.

If needed, please click the link near the top right corner for Weekend Reflections instructions. Now, lets have some fun with Weekend Reflections!

Beautiful lighting James. The stillness of the water, the calm reflection convey a sense of quiet. Only the flag waving in the breeze hints at movement.

Splendid reflections! Usually I take my daily walks starting outside my house - but I'm not bored either.

Well if you did tell us that it was Venice I would have find it hard to believe because of the Stars and Stripes waving us... :D

It is a nice shot anyway. I like how you manage to capture the quietness of the night in your nightshots : they are always so peaceful... And it is quite strange, to, cause evening are usually full of life, though...

Gorgeous! A place I need to explore. There is also a Venice Canal in Venice Beach.

A place does not need to be tall to offer many views, moods, corners to picture. A lot depends on the eye of the one who is looking at it..and you have a perfect eye!

You have captured the light perfectly. The reflections are wonderful. A very beautiful image. Well done.

How could anyone get bored with that? Beautiful!

The color in this is what I notice...yellow from the sodium vapor lights predominates, but there is white here and there to show that the yellow is not a mistake! Beautiful!

A warm golden night glow reflected... everything calm; only the flag blowing hints at a breeze. I can't imagine with your eye you'll ever be bored, James.

That's a nice walk every evening! Neat reflections. Maybe our rain will stay away long enough to go on a walk tonight!

How could you be bored with reflections like that? Walking where there is water is always rewarding with changes of weather and light. Nice shot indeed.

Another great one, James. Someday I'm going to put myself where I can get a night reflection.

Great nightshot James. Also a nice reflection.

That canal has offered you some really great shots....I think it will be quite awhile before you're bored. Plus it has 2 sides. I imagine early morning light might be beautiful here too, if the sun is cooperative.
Happy weekend James.

You are so cool with these night shots. And you must have a fine lens to get the angles so true. I love your eye and what results you get.

Great light, great reflection. This is an awesome shot. And what a wonderful place for an evening walk.

Hey James... looks like life is on easy street, strolling by the water, taking in the light. Could be worse fates in life I think. The architecture of this house is a bit boxy for my taste, I think I like the reflected half better, it is dreamier than the real part. Although I drove by there once or twice while living in San Diego, I never got to Balboa. Will look forward to seeing more through your gifted lens eye...
