A New Years Kiss (Weekend Reflections # 170)

Grapevine, Texas (The reflection is in the Christmas ornament)

I wanted to capture a Christmas ornament reflection of me and some buildings on Main Street but the kissing couple at the top left of the photo "stole the show". So now this represents a New Years kiss at midnight.

Happy New Year!!!

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing (Weekend Reflections # 169)

Fort Worth, Texas (Fort Worth Opera House aka Bass Performance Hall)

This is a reflection of a 48 ft. (almost 15 meters) angel. It's one of two on the side of the opera house in Fort Worth. I captured the reflection in the window of the Barnes and Noble bookstore across the street.
NF Inspiring Photography/Catching the light

"Glory to the newborn King!

Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled"
Joyful, all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With the angelic host proclaim:
"Christ is born in Bethlehem"
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"

Christ by highest heav'n adored
Christ the everlasting Lord!
Late in time behold Him come
Offspring of a Virgin's womb
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
Hail the incarnate Deity
Pleased as man with man to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"

Hail the heav'n-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings
Ris'n with healing in His wings
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"

  Merry Christmas!

Ephemeral Scenery (Weekend Reflections # 167)

Florence, Italy

One second there might be a beautiful reflection and the next it could be distorted, but still beautiful or possibly even gone. I like figuring out the right time and elements to make a good reflection photo. It's fun because reflections constantly change.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Lunch Break is Over (Weekend Reflections # 166)

Dallas, Texas

This is a reflection of the woman who was "Sittin' on top of the World" during her lunch break in Weekend Reflections # 163 and another reflection of the Fountain Place Building that I showed in Weekend Reflections # 157.

I hope you have a really great Weekend!

Philadelphia Reflections (Weekend Reflections # 165)

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

I hope all of my fellow Americans had a good Thanksgiving Day!
We enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving with my wife's parents who are visiting us from California. Last week we were in San Antonio with them and this week we are showing them our part of Texas, the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Have a great weekend!!!

Window Reflection (Weekend Reflections # 164)

New Hope, Pennsylvania

Normally my window reflections are reflections in windows but this time it's a window reflected in a mirror. I don't remember if it was a mirrored table or just a mirror sitting on a table.

I'll be away all of this Weekend and most of or all next weekend.

Have fun!

A Strange Window (Weekend Reflections # 162)

Denton, Texas

Sometimes reflections are clearer than actual things. The old courthouse, the trees and the blue sky are reflections but the face on the left and the light fixture on the right were inside of the store.

Have a great weekend!!!

Thinking about Newtown (Weekend Reflections # 161)

Newtown, Pennsylvania (A reflection in the window of the Black Horse Tavern)

This is a reflection of State Street in Newtown, Pennsylvania. I lived a few blocks away from here from 2009 to 2011 and out of all the places I've lived it's still my favorite town. In fact this blog used to be called Newtown Area Photo before I changed it to Weekend Reflections.

Enjoy the weekend and the reflections!!! :-)

What's He Looking at? (Weekend Reflections # 159)

Denton, Texas

I bet Sylvia "from over the hill" can guess what he was looking at. :-)

Thanks to the reflection in his sunglasses I didn't even need to turn around to see the beautiful old courthouse. I did end up seeing the courthouse directly but I spent most of my time capturing its reflection in windows. So this probably won't be the last Denton County Courthouse reflection that I'll post.

Three Years Plus! (Weekend Reflections # 158)

Florence, Italy

Look, there's a building in a puddle of water.

I'm a little late in remembering, but the third anniversary of Weekend Reflections was either last week or the week before. I started it in late September of 2009. I never realized it would become so popular. Thanks to all of you who faithfully or even occasionally come here to share and enjoy reflections!
Speaking of anniversaries, Vicki and I will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary this Wednesday and I'm happy to say I've remembered every one of them. :-)

Fountain Place (Weekend Reflections # 157)

Dallas, Texas

This is a clothing store window reflection of the top floors of two skyscrapers and a bare tree. The Fountain Place Building in the center was my focus. Have you ever seen a building with such sharp angles? It looks like it could pierce a hole in the sky. I'm definitely going to go back and try to capture some reflections on the building itself.

This unique skyscraper was designed by I.M. Pei and Partners.

The Longhorn Saloon (Weekend Reflections # 155)

Fort Worth, Texas

This is a sign that is shaped like a bull reflected in the window of a saloon. I didn't go in but I can imagine the sounds of spurs on a wooden floor, whiskey-drinking cowboys and bar fights. I've probably watched too many old movies, but I'm okay with that. :)
In case you're wondering what's on the right side of the photo, there's a cowboy painted on the window. It looks like the bull reflection is jumping over the cowboy's eye.

Moving Reflections (Weekend Reflections # 153)

 Florence, Italy (Piazza Della Repubblica)

This is a carousel in a public square in Florence, Italy. I was standing in the rain watching the horses go around and remembering my childhood when I noticed that the horses were decorated with little mirrors. So voila a reflection.  Actually I didn't stop with just one reflection so I'll post more from here in the future.

Ah, Venice (Weekend Reflections # 152)

Venice, Italy (Campo San Barnaba)

The most amazing thing happened right after I took this shot. A man and a woman climbed out of a manhole soaking wet and they were chased away by a group of armed men wearing fez hats. I'm kidding. Actually I just described a movie scene that took place here in the 1980's. ( Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade)

Florence, Italy (an upside down reflection)

This is a reflection of a bridge in Florence, Italy. Everything in the photo is a reflection except some floating weeds and debris. That's my wife Vicki up there waving. I asked her to wave for the camera and she yelled back "I'm waving but you're aiming the camera at the water".
You would think that she would know by now that I see the world in reflections. :-)

Hello and welcome to another Weekend of Reflections! :0)

The pink and yellow umbrellas and the balcony above are the obvious reflections but there is also a reflection of someone's face near the bottom right corner of the photo. I didn't notice it until now.

Florence, Italy (window reflection)

It rained a couple of times while I was in Florence last December and I was glad because it increased my chances of finding reflections.  I posted another reflection from this trip at my other blog. Le Chat Qui Rit (Weekend Reflections # 143)

Venice, Italy

This isn't the clearest photo so I'll explain. It's a narrow walkway in Venice with a large window on the left that's reflecting the stuff on the right. The hanging sign with the picture of a laughing cat says "Self Service" and below that in small letters it says "Chat Qui Rit" which is French for Laughing Cat.
I hope you all  oops I mean y'all have a great weekend! :o)

Addicted to Route 66 (Weekend Reflections # 140)

Williams, Arizona (Route 66)

There is a lot of history and interesting things to see on Route 66. I'm sure it has changed quite a bit from its glory days, but I have a good imagination, so I was able to go back in time and really enjoy the ride.
I took this photo in Williams, Arizona. I was surprised by the amount of French tourists. I finally spoke to one of them. He was from Paris and he told me that Route 66 is "mythique" to the French. Thankfully, most of the conversation was in English because my French is very limited. :0)

African Nouveau (Weekend Reflections # 139)

I saw these Ceramic Sculpture reflections in the window of an art gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Woodrow Nash: "African Nouveau is the term I use to describe my present body of work. It’s specifically African and European in influence.  The images are African in general with the graceful, slender proportions and long undulating lines of 18th century Art Nouveau.  The concept is 15th century Benin, a former kingdom in Africa flourishing from the 14th - 17th century.  Both styles were often asymmetrical, using decorative shapes and ornamental motifs derived from natural forms.  The two styles lend themselves well to each other.   Hence the term “African Nouveau”.

Tumbleweeds (Weekwnd Reflections # 136)

A reflection in a store window. I was trying to just capture a reflection of the old woman and the fountain, but this guy walked into the frame. Oh well, the more reflections the merrier. What's that? You thought I was calling these people tumbleweeds? Come on, would I do that? The sign above the woman's head says "Tumbleweeds Cocina".  :o) Actually, I feel like a tumbleweed myself. I'm hitting the road this weekend and I won't have much computer time for the next few weeks. I scheduled several Weekend Reflections posts in advance so have no fear. :o)

I'm so sorry about the last Weekend Reflections not posting. It was scheduled at the regular time but somehow ended up saved as a draft. We were in the mountains with no internet or cellphone access. I just discovered the problem when I got home last night. I think this was was the first weekend with no Weekend Reflections since I started it almost three years ago. :(

Waiting for the Swallows to Return (Weekend Reflections # 127)

San Juan Capistrano, California  "The miracle of the "Swallows" of Capistrano takes place each year at the Mission San Juan Capistano, on March 19th, St. Joseph's Day. As the little birds wing their way back to the most famous Mission in California, the village of San Juan Capistrano takes on a fiesta air and the visitors from all parts of the world, and all walks of life, gather in great numbers to witness the "miracle" of the return of the swallows."

This is an upside down reflection of the San Juan Capistrano Mission. The mission was founded by the Spanish in 1775. I found the slightly breezy reflection in one of the mission's fountains.

A reflection of a biker on an old car and in the window of The Route 66 museum in Clinton Oklahoma. I didn't go inside because I was trying to stay ahead of a tornado. It was a good decision because the tornado struck this area about a half an hour later.  I don't think the museum was damaged but I'm glad I wasn't caught in the storm.
