Benches Behind a Church

Most of the old churches near my house have little cemeteries in back. This is a park like setting near the cemetery of a 240 year old church. I've walked around here a few times but I've never seen another person around.

This post was inspired by my blogging friend Malyss. She finds and posts wonderful pictures of benches on a daily basis. Now I find myself really noticing all of the different styles of benches that are all around.

It's surprising how many benches there are when you start noticing them. I think they make really interesting pictures.
I like all the elements of this picture, the cemetery in the background and the snow. Nice shot.

I know what you mean. Ever since I joined Malyss and the other bench-watchers at RuneE's "Bench on Friday" meme (at Visual Norway), I find myself on the lookout for interesting benches in Jerusalem.

This is a quiet picture. Lovely snow adds to the scene so much.
It is nice to roam around cemeteries, especially the old ones. Yes, usually you have it all to yourself.

I want to sit right there as snow falls all around.

Very nice. I wonder why no one goes there?

I'm so glad to see people sharing my interest all over the world!

Your picture is wonderful, by the light, the place and the mood.
I like those old cemeteries, they're not sad, they simply offer a possibility to take time to remember. And this simple wooden bench is the best place to do it..

Thank you for this post, dear blog friend!

Benches? What a great idea! I've seen beautiful benches in Maryland too. I've photographed a few myself, come to think of it!
This looks like a very peaceful place!

I love benches, have been posting them for a while. These two are outstanding, the natural wood on the snow is perfect!

Looks like that cemetery has lots of photographic possibilities...240 years is pretty old by US standards!

For my camera I have the kit lens and a 70-300mm zoom. This is my first dedicated lens. This year our budget was a little tight so I asked for the 50 mm f1.8 instead of the f1.4 knowing Santa would be more likely to oblige with the price tag of the 1.8 -under $100. I had borrowed some lenses to experiment with, and wow...what a difference a lens makes. Next I think I'll go for a macro lens but an image stabilized zoom would be nice too. :)

Good for you for shooting in manual - you will learn so much! I decided to learn to push my camera to its limits before upgrading...plus get some lenses first.

I guess you won't ask me any photography questions after this! I obviously love to 'talk' about it. :)

This is a beautiful shot James. I find older cemeteries very peaceful and relaxing, and interesting too. I just went and checked out this meme - there are lots of neat benches here but the last thing I need is another obsession to photograph lol. Have a great week. Kathy

Nice photo James. I, too, have been finding benches of all sorts in my little town since I came across RuneE's blog. These are worthy benches.

A bench it is possible to sit on - even now. I like that golden light. It gives a certain warmth to the wood - very inviting.

What a wonderfully evocative and moody photo, James. Now I'll have to check out your friend's benches :) I'm posting a weekend reflection photo a day early, because I'm going to be on the road tomorrow for much of the day.
